CRC ends Falcons' unbeaten streak at 16 games
Sooner or later, it had to come to an end. The Folsom Lake baseball team went 16 games without a loss - dating all the way back to February 10 (nearly six weeks!) - before losing to Cosumnes River 16-4 on Tuesday afternoon at FLC. The Falcons' pitching - which had been nearly flawless during those 16 games - finally took a beating, allowing 13 hits, 6 walks, and 6 hit batters. The Falcons' defense was suspect as well, committing 3 errors that contributed to 6 unearned CRC runs. After spotting the Hawks a 6-1 second-inning lead, the Falcons scored single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings to make it 7-4. But the Hawks took off in the 6th & 7th innings, adding eight more runs to break the game open. The Falcons' offense, while collecting 10 hits, couldn't put together a big inning. Centerfielder Jeff Bauser was the exception with two ringing doubles into the left field corner, a single, and two runs scored.
Despite the loss, the Falcons (18-3-1, 6-1 in Big 8) remain in a virtual tie for first place in the Big 8 with Delta. They'll continue their series with Cosumnes River on Thursday at CRC, then play at FLC on Saturday.
