Falcons win epic 5-set cliffhanger over De Anza

The Folsom Lake and De Anza College volleyball teams squared off in Cupertino on Friday afternoon, but it was nearly night by the time the Falcons bounded off the court with a scintillating 5-set victory over the Lions.  The set scores were about as close as could be (22-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 15-13), with the Falcons winning their three sets by the narrowest possible margin (2 points).

Sophomore Taylar Schaferwho has been playing mostly at defensive specialist this season, moved to outside hitter for this match and finished with 12 kills.  Sophomore setter Kendall Hughes also saw action at hitter (with two Falcon hitters resting sore shoulders) and responded with double-digit kills as well.  Sophomore Maria Rivera continued to shine in her role as defensive specialist with 17 digs.

With the win the Falcons improved to 4-3 overall for the season.  They'll face some stiff competition on Friday when they host Folsom Lake Classic #2 with matches against state #7 West valley (4-3) at 12 noon and #2 Feather River (12-1) at 4:00 pm.
