Beavers deny Falcons' quest for a trip to state championships

After splitting their two previous meetings earlier this season, the ARC and Folsom Lake volleyball teams met for one last time in 2019 on Saturday night with a berth in the state championships at stake.  A packed Hutchison Gym crowd was treated to some spirited rallies as the teams dueled for that coveted trip to San Diego, but in the end it was the Beavers winning in four sets, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21, and 25-15.  After trailing by as many as 4 points twice in the first set, the Falcons took control and scored eight of the final 11 points to win 25-20.  The second set was a mirror image, with the Beavers taking control late after a tie score at 15-all.  The third set was the wildest of all with both teams making runs of several points and holding a lead of five points.  With the teams tied at 19 (and one set apiece), the next few points were going to be the key to victory.  The Beavers were able to fight off the Falcon attack with timely blocks and defensive digs to earn the third set win, 25-21,  and take control of the match.  The fourth set was mostly a formality as the Beavers steadily pulled away for the match victory.

The disappointment was evident on the Falcon player's faces; they finished their season with a record of 22-6 and were ranked 8th in California at the end of the regular season.  Congratulations to first-year coach Molly Hanrahan on an outstanding season!
