Falcons fall to Sierra

A classic early-season showdown between two of the Big 8 Conference's best teams lived up to its billing on Wednesday night at Falcon Gym, with Sierra College toppling the Falcons, 3-1.  The individual set scores were more indicative of the closeness of the match (Sierra first): 30-28, 21-25, 25-15, and 26-24.  With the exception of set #3, every set was a nail-biter that could have gone either way.  The Falcons were serving for set point three different times in the 4th set; had they won any of those rallies, the match would have gone to a deciding 15-point 5th set.  The Falcons leaned heavily on sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Dillon – who came through with her usual big number of kills and digs -  but also had major contributions from freshman hitter Julin Kenison and sophomore middle blocker Yasmine Sowell-Scott.  Sophomore Madi Pearce provided defensive strength in the back-row, repeatedly digging the Wolverines' hits.

The Falcons (7-2, 1-1 in Big 8) will play at Modesto (5-5, 0-2 in Big 8) on Friday night, then return for a home matchup against Delta next Wednesday.
