Falcon women fall to perennial power Foothill in regional quaterfinals
The #7 seeded FLC women's tennis team faced a daunting task in Tuesday's northern California regional team playoffs, having to play at #2 seed Foothill College. Still, the Falcons appeared up for the challenge as they went toe-to-toe with Owls. As expected, the Owls won at #1 doubles while the Falcons surprised at #2, winning 9-7. The turning point was at #3 doubles, where the Owls managed a narrow 9-7 win that put them in command. Moving onto the singles matches, the Falcons needed four wins. Laura Parkyn (#5 singles) quickly did her part, winning 6-0, 6-1. But after Nicole Chumpitaz (#6) and Arielle Frank (#2) lost close matches, there was no room for error. When Michelle Doyle lost a nailbiter (4-6, 3-6), the outcome was determined and the two remaining matches (which the Falcons were leading) were halted. The final 5-2 score was not indicative of the closeness of this match.
