Falcons advance with 2-1 playoff win

The Falcon women entered the first round of the CCCAA playoffs as the #4 seed on Saturday with a  roster depleted by late season injuries and staring at a dangerous opponent in #13 seed Las Positas.  Three key players, who between them scored 18 total goals  during the season, were all out with serious injuries, making for a tense first-round match.  The Falcons struck first when Taylor Curtis drew a foul in the box in the 20th minute of play and confidently slotted the Penalty Kick past the Hawk's goalkeeper.  The Hawks were not fazed, however, and responded with a tying goal of their own fifteen minutes later.  The 1-1 score would stand for the next 55 minutes of play.  With just five minutes left in the match, it appeared the teams would be playing an extra 30 minutes (two 15-minute periods) of overtime, but Falcon midfielder Luci Gulbransen made sure that didn't happen when she collected a centering pass from Mia Solorio Smith and netted the game-winner.  The Falcon defense held firm over the final minutes to cement the 2-1 victory.

With the win, the Falcons (14-1-5 overall) advance to Round 2 of the playoffs; they will host #5 seed Clovis (14-4-2), a 4-0 winner over West Valley, on Tuesday at 5:00 pm at Falcon Stadium.
