Falcons, Wolverines battle to 1-1 tie

Tuesday afternoon's rematch at Sierra College was another classic tussle between two highly-ranked and evenly matched teams.  In fact, it couldn't have been closer, as they battled to a 1-1 tie.  The Falcons played much better than in their 1-0 loss last week in Rocklin, this time playing with more composure and greater confidence.  The Wolverines scored the game's first goal midway through the first half, but the Falcons maintained their poise and continued to defend at a high level while controlling possession for a majority of the time.  Their pressure created several goal scoring opportunities before sophomore forward Taylor Curtis found the goal on a curling corner kick that the Sierra goalkeeper couldn't punch away, tying the score at 1-1 in the 72nd minute.  Despite desperate efforts by both teams to break the tie, neither could tally another goal.  The result is officially listed as a tie, but the teams had to proceed to a Penalty Kick shootout to determine which would advance to the Big 8 championship on Friday.  The Wolverines won that shootout 4-2 and will advance to play at Delta on Friday.

The Falcons (13-1-4 overall, 7-1-2 in Big 8 play) will host Santa Rosa (11-7-1 overall, 6-4 in Big 8) on Friday at 1:00 pm.
