Bio

Brett brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Falcons, as well as a strong rapport with head coach Ali Mollet as this will be their eighth combined year coaching together and fifth at Folsom Lake College.

From Chico to Folsom, Cauchi and Mollet have learned what it takes to run a successful program. Under the mentorship of Chico State Women’s Basketball Head Coach Brian Fogel, both were crucial pieces in the success of a historically great basketball program that saw multiple NCAA tournament appearances in their tenure.

Cauchi’s main roles with the Falcons include: recruiting, player development, practice planning, film breakdown and editing, youth and skills camps, and academic success. He also aides in running the Student-Athletic Success Center (SASC), where student-athletes have a space to excel academically.

2022-23 was a record-breaking year for FLC as a program. The Falcons finished 23-7 (an 11-game turnaround from the previous year). This season saw the program jump to their highest ranking, #8 in the north and #13 in the state. They finished 12-4 in the Big 8 Conference, good for 3rd place behind the #2 and #5 ranked Northern California playoff seeds. With that, they earned the #8 seed in the CCCAA playoffs, having a first-round bye. After a second-round win, the Falcons fell in the Sweet Sixteen to Northern Region champions and state runner-up #1 Butte College 74-63.

Many records were shattered by this group, starting with 23 wins with 16 wins being the previous record. On 11/23/22 at Yuba College, the Falcons erupted for 102 points in a single game- the first time they had ever eclipsed the century mark. Not only did they set the single game field goal record that game (42), but twice more that year took over the #2 (38) and #3 (36) spot.

Defense was the anchor for the Falcons all year, and they now hold five of the top seven single game lowest points allowed in program history.

To sum up this incredible season, the 2022-23 Falcons currently hold the top team single season records in 15 of 22 countable categories since the program first started in 2017.

With all the team success, there was plenty of individual success as two players were named to the Big 8 all-conference team.

As the Student Personnel Assistant, Brett has helped create a top-tier academic environment with all coaching staffs and student-athletes. During the 2022 academic year, all nine athletic programs finished with a 3.0 team GPA. Women’s basketball finished with 3.47 team GPA.

Prior FLC, Cauchi played two years at Solano College before transferring to play at Linfield College (Oregon), then began his coaching career at Chico State while he finished his bachelor’s degree in English. After graduating from Chico in 2014, he stayed on staff another year to gain more coaching experience before flying overseas to Barcelona, Spain to teach English and coach basketball.

Cauchi then coached one year at Dixon High School as Head JV Boys coach and varsity assistant, helping guide the Rams to their best record in over 30 years, going 23-7 overall and making it to the state playoffs. He also was the head boys varsity golf coach and led the Rams to two league titles during his time at Dixon.

Cauchi also has worked with Point Guard College (PGC) Basketball for the past nine years, working camps all over the country. He recently completed his Master’s Degree in Intercollegiate Athletics- Leadership in Coaching from the University of Washington. Currently, Cauchi is the Director of Youth Development at Shoot360 El Dorado Hills and operates his own basketball leadership and training business, Brett Cauchi Basketball.
