Bio

Bill Baxter returns for his third year on staff with the Falcons. Baxter brings in quite a bit of experience and mentorship, having coached high school and college basketball for the past 50 years. Prior to coming to FLC, he had spent the last nine seasons on the Sacramento State Hornets women's basketball staff.

Baxter is a 1973 UC Davis graduate where he played basketball for Coach Bob Hamilton. He began his teaching/coaching career 48 years ago and during that time has coached 79 total different High School and College teams. 

He began his coaching career as Head Coach for the freshman men's basketball team and as the assistant coach with the Varsity team at UC Davis from 1972-74. 

From 1974-76, Baxter was an assistant coach for the Cosumnes River College men's basketball team under the direction of Coach Jim Clark. 

In 1974, Baxter began teaching and coaching at El Camino High School and ascended to the school's athletic director position in 1994, a position he held for 17 years. Baxter was the boys' water polo and boys' and girls' swimming coach from 1974 through 1987, where he won a combined 31 league titles in the two sports. 

During this same time, in the years from 1980-89, Coach Baxter was also a high school and college basketball official for 10 seasons. 

Before joining Sacramento State, Baxter developed a strong winning reputation in the Sacramento region as head coach of the girls' basketball team at El Camino High School. Baxter, who tallied a Sac-Joaquin Section record 601 career wins, coached the Eagles for 24 years and took his team to the playoffs every year during those 24 seasons. 

His basketball teams at El Camino won 14 league titles, 5 Sac-Joaquin Section championships, and made 10 section title game appearances. He took his teams to five Nor Cal championship games, winning three titles. During the mid-90's, the Eagles played in three straight California State Championship games while his 1993-94 squad achieved a perfect 36-0 record en route to a state championship. In 2011, before retiring from high school coaching and teaching, Baxter coached El Camino to the semifinals of the section playoffs and advanced to the second round of the California state playoffs. In the summer of 2013, in order to honor him for his service to the school, the basketball court at El Camino High School was named William C. Baxter Court. 

Coach Baxter and his wife Michelle, a former two-sport athlete at UC Davis and a retired 35-year physical education teacher and coach at Oakmont High School, have two children - daughter Cassie and son Kyle. Cassie is a former volleyball student athlete at CSU East Bay and is currently a physical education teacher and coach in Bakersfield, Calif. Kyle played basketball at Humboldt State University where he was a Freshman All-American. Upon graduating, Kyle played professionally in France. He currently lives and works in Sacramento while he pursues a career in college basketball officiating.
