Falcon women lose to Feather River in home opener

The Folsom Lake women had their 2021-22 home opener spoiled by the visiting Feather River Golden Eagles on Thursday night, 75-63.  The teams waged a very close battle until the third quarter, when the Eagles outscored the Falcons by 10 points and held them to just 10 total points for the quarter.  Until that point, the game was a back-and-forth affair, highlighted by Feather River's tenacious defense and the Falcons' depth and all-around team play.  The teams were separated by just one point at halftime (37-36), but the Eagles went on a rebounding rampage in the third quarter and the Falcons never quite recovered.  The Falcons closed to within 8 points twice during the final quarter but could get no closer.  Leading scorers for the Falcons were Daily Applegarth with 13 points and Reya Lee with 11.  Point guard Macie Purbaugh recorded 5 assists, and tellingly, the Falcons' leading rebounder was Megan Williams with 5 boards.  The Falcons shot reasonably well from the field (43%), but were miserable from the free throw line, where they made just 4 of 15 (27%).

The Falcons will play two home games next week prior to Thanksgiving, with Shasta visiting on Monday evening and Skyline playing at FLC on Wednesday.
