Women’s basketball upended by Modesto

The FLC women's basketball team, hoping to finish their season strong and qualify for the CCCAA state playoffs, hit a speed bump on Tuesday night as the Modesto Pirates stole a win at Falcon Gym, 68-60.  The Falcons had previously defeated the Pirates by 25 points back on January 11, but Modesto played like the better team on Tuesday.  With shooting woes afflicting them, the Falcons were forced to work for easy inside shots but found Modesto's 6'2" center tough to get past.  Even after trailing by seven points at halftime, the Falcons were in a position to win the game with a 21-12 run in the third quarter.  With three minutes to play, it was still anybody's game with the Pirates leading 57-56.  The final two minutes belonged to Modesto and they made free throws when the Falcons were forced to foul, resulting in the 8-point win.  Modesto's Annie Winton led all scorers with 32 points, while Falcon sophomore Shay Boley paced her team with 21.

The Falcons have the tough task of facing the number one ranked team in California, Delta College (24-1) on Thursday night in Stockton, then wrap up their regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 18 with a home game against Sierra College.
