Falcons stun highly ranked Butte
The Falcons hosted state #13 ranked (and #4 NorCal) Butte College on Friday night for their final non-conference game and put together their finest game of the season thus far, winning 80-65 in convincing fashion. The two teams traded the lead through the early stages of the game with Butte holding a 3 point lead at halftime (34-31). But the third quarter belonged to the Falcons as they outpointed the Roadrunners by 9, mostly on the strength of Shaina Shah's flurry of 13 points and a stifling defense that limited the Roadrunners to just 13 points in the quarter. The Falcons put the game out of reach with a monstrous 27-point fourth quarter, including 10 points by sophomore Shay Boley and 7 from freshman Taylor Sexton. Boley finished the night with a huge double-double, scoring 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting and dishing out 12 assists to go with her 7 steals. Shah finished with 18 points while Sexton tallied 13. Despite the big win, the Falcons left room for improvement with 28 turnovers and 53% free throw shooting (9-of-17).
The Falcons (9-4) face Santa Rosa (4-5) to open Big 8 Conference play on Wednesday at 5:30 in Falcon Gym.
