Falcon softball splits doubleheader against ARC

It was probably inevitable that the Folsom Lake and American River softball teams - with identical 9-12 records in Big 8 play and 19-19 records overall - would split their doubleheader on Saturday at FLC.  The teams were similar in every way and the scores of the two games reflected that, with the Falcons winning the opener 2-0 and the Beavers taking the second game, 4-2 in eight innings.  In the opening game, the Falcons scored in the first inning on a Taylor Eby single, a sac bunt, and an RBI single by Adriana Gonzalez.  That one run was all the Falcons would need thanks to Gonzalez' masterful five-hit shutout of the Beavers.  The Falcons managed to add an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Mikaela Pamplona.

In the late game, Lilly Alvarez was in the circle for the Falcons and pitched well, allowing just two runs in her five innings.  The Falcons tied the game in the sixth inning with runs scored by Taylor Eby and Olivia Dominguez but couldn't capitalize on two more hits in the inning as they were caught stealing and out on an interference call.  Those missed opportunities would eventually haunt the Falcons as the Beavers plated two runs in the first extra inning to win, 4-2.

As is tradition with the final home game of the season, the Falcons honored departing sophomores Emily Thompson, Sachi Reyes, Lilly Alvarez, Taylor Eby, Olivia Dominguezand Hannah Dominguez.  These sophomores formed the core of the first FLC softball team to achieve a 20-win season!
