Falcons sweep two from Yuba

The air temperature may have been cold, but the FLC softball bats were red hot on Thursday afternoon as the Falcons swept a doubleheader from visiting Yuba by scores of 18-0 and 21-0.

In game two, Falcon pitcher Olivia Aguigam came within one batter of pitching the first perfect game in FLC history.  With two outs in the 5th inning, a seeing-eye ground ball just eluded the glove of first baseman Raquel Hernandez for the 49ers' only baserunner of the game.  Aguigam promptly struck out the last batter for her 13th strikeout of the game.  Let's make this clear:  Aguigam struck out 13 of the 16 batters she faced!   Meanwhile, the Falcons' bats were booming, rapping out 18 hits, including 6 doubles.  Three of those doubles came off the bat of leftfielder Mikey Edwards-Gonzalez, who finished 4-for-4 with five RBI.  Second baseman Araya Corral had a double and four RBI, and centerfielder Hannah Harvey was 2-for-2 with three RBI.

The Falcons will host Cabrillo on Friday afternoon, a day earlier than originally scheduled, in hopes of beating the anticipated rainstorm.  Games are scheduled for 3:30 and 5:30 pm.
