Softball defeats Modesto, 4-1

The FLC softball team made the most of their rescheduled game (due to Modesto's inability to field a complete team 2+ weeks ago) as they earned their fourth Big 8 victory of the season with a 4-1 win over the Pirates at Falcon Diamond on Thursday.  Sophomore McKenna Rickles not only pitched a complete game without allowing an earned run, she also had the key hit in a three-run fourth inning rally, driving in two runs with her double to left-center.  Rickles kept opposing baserunners to a minimum as she pitched to contact and didn't walk any batters.  Sophomore Kelsey Liddell got the Falcons on the board in the third inning with her sacrifice fly to deep left field that scored Rickles from third for a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish.  Although the Falcons committed two errors, their defense was solid when it mattered most as they stifled any Modesto threats with their gloves, especially shortstop Raven Lewis and outfielder Melanie Blazek

The Falcons (4-17 in Big 8, 10-26 overall) will play a doubleheader at Sac City (10-11, 20-17) on Saturday, then finish their season at home against Big 8 leader Sierra (18-3, 30-7) on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.
