Kinights take two at Falcon Diamond

Kinights take two at Falcon Diamond

A rare Wednesday afternoon doubleheader started out rather poorly for the Falcons, and just when there was cause for optimism, the end result turned negative.  The Falcons opened with a lopsided, 5-inning loss to Shasta, 15-2.  The lone highlight was Sara Thibaut's second inning leadoff home run, a line drive to straightaway center field.  The Knights hit Falcon starter Lauren Orris hard, then did the same to reliever Raven Lewis.  The 8-run rule took effect after the Knights scored seven in the fifth inning and shut down the Falcons in the bottom half of the inning.

In game two, starting pitcher McKenna Rickles kept the Knights from having any big innings, but the Falcons still trailed 5-1 until the sixth when they put together a 3-run rally to make it 5-4.  Still down a run in the bottom half of the seventh, Sara Thibaut hit her second homer of the day – this one a liner to left field – that tied the score and sent the game into extra innings.  Using the tie-breaker rule (each extra inning starts with a runner on second base), the Knights were able to put a run across in the top of the eighth while the Falcons could not advance theirs, resulting in a 6-5 Shasta win.

With just four games remaining on their schedule, the Falcons will face Modesto on Thursday at Falcon Diamond at 5:00 pm.
