Falcons take two at Modesto

The Falcon bats came to life in a big way on Thursday afternoon as they took both games of a softball doubleheader at Modesto, 11-2 and 14-4.  In the opener, the Falcons jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning and were never challenged as starting pitcher McKenna Rickles stifled the Pirates on five hits and allowed just two unearned runs.  Sophomore Kelsey Liddell was the offensive star with three hits and three RBI, while centerfielder Hope Ferri added two hits and drove in a run.

Regular shortstop Raven Lewis took over the pitching duties for the Falcons in game two and earned the win with four solid innings.  The Falcons scored three runs in each of the first three innings to take a commanding 9-2 lead.  Designated player Tatyana Rosen had a huge game with four hits in four at bats  – including two doubles and a home run - and tied Raven Lewis' school record of six RBI in one game.  McKenna Rickles had three hits and scored three runs, and reserve outfielder Alenna Nguyen got in on the fun with a pinch hit line drive single to right in the fifth.

With the two wins, the Falcons jumped past three teams and are tied for fifth in the Big 8 standings with a 2-3 record.  They'll face a tough opponent in Diablo Valley (5-1, 13-5) on Saturday afternoon at Falcon Diamond.  Game times are 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
