Falcons drop two at Shasta

Playing in arctic-like conditions better suited for the Winter Olympics than softball, the Falcons took on Shasta College on Thursday afternoon in Redding for a non-conference doubleheader.   In the opening game, the Falcon bats were as cold as the weather as they managed just two hits in a 13-1 five-inning loss to the Knights.  Starting pitcher Lauren Orris was hit hard as the Knights pounded out four doubles and two homers among their 11 hits.

The Falcons regrouped for game two and took a 3-1 fourth-inning lead on consecutive RBI singles by Sara Thibaut,  Delana Provan, and Melanie Blazek.  Meanwhile, starting pitcher McKenna Rickles was successful at silencing the Knights' bats.  However, things took a turn for the worse in the bottom of the fifth when the Knights scored four unearned on two hits and three Falcon errors for a 5-3 lead that would hold up for the final score.  The two losses dropped the Falcons' record to 6-7.
