Falcons go extras to defeat Merced
The Falcons traveled to Merced on Saturday for a mixed doubleheader, first playing Merced followed by an afternoon matchup against San Jose. In the opener, the Falcons and Blue Devils waged a pitcher's duel with both teams managing just a single run through seven innings. Falcon outfielder Hope Ferri got the Falcons on the board in the fifth inning when she singled home McKenna Rickles for a 1-0 lead. With the game tied at 1 in extra innings, Ferri bunted Rickles over to third to set up the game-winning run; Rickles scored on the throw when Raven Lewis stole second. The Falcons were able to strand a Blue Devil base runner at third in the bottom of the eighth to earn the 2-1 victory.
