Softball team loses to Santa Rosa, 6-5

The Falcons hosted Santa Rosa Thursday afternoon in a Big 8 Conference game that was postponed from Tuesday and promptly took a 2-1 first-inning lead without getting a hit as they capitalized on walks and Bear Cub errors.  Playing the part of gracious hosts, the Falcons returned the favor as they allowed three runs in the second and two more in the third by virtue of their own defensive lapses.  Down 6-1, the Falcons staged a fifth-inning rally that plated three runs and had the tying run on second when the inning ended.  They threatened again in the sixth with runners on first and second, but again were denied.  Freshman Lauren Orris pitched another solid game but was the victim of poor fielding.  Catcher Gaby Fruciano had a double, a single, and an RBI, and Kelsey Liddell had an RBI double to lead the Falcon batters.

The Falcons will close their 2017 home schedule on Saturday with a doubleheader against Sacramento City at 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
