Golf team finishes disappointing 4th at NorCal, yet still qualifies for State Championship Tourney

The Folsom Lake golf team, fresh off a promising victory in the NorCal Preview Tournament 10 days ago, finished a disappointing (by their standards) fourth in the CCCAA NorCal Regional Championship on Monday at Old Del Monte Golf Club in Monterey.  The Falcons shot 386 in the morning round followed by 390 in the afternoon round for a team total 776, four strokes behind third place Sierra.  Individually, the Falcons were led by Hayden Herrick, who shot 144 (69 and 75) to be crowned NorCal Individual Champion.  Ironically, Hayden was the only Falcon golfer who did not make the Big 8 All-Conference Team, yet wound up NorCal Champion.  Sophomore Drew Grecothe Big 8 MVP, also played well with a total of 155 (79/76).

While the fourth-place finish was a disappointment, the Falcons still qualified for next week's CCCAA State Championship and a chance for redemption.  The tournament will be held at Soboba Springs Country Club in San jacinto on Monday, May 16 and will also be a one day, 36-hole tournament.  The top four teams from both the NorCal and SoCal regional tournaments will be included.
