Falcon golfers win 9th straight tournament to cap Big 8 title
Having already clinched the Big 8 Conference title last week, the Folsom Lake golf team put an exclaimation mark on their season with ther ninth consecutive tournament victory on Monday at Rancho Murieta. The Falcons shot a team score of 386 to win by four strokes over runner-up Napa Valley (390) and 11 strokes ahead of third-place Sierra (397) on a day that had no bearing on the final team standings. The real drama for the Falcons centered on who would capture the Big 8 MVP crown. With Patrick Dumag and Drew Greco in a virtual tie entering Monday, and Napa's Ryan Stewart and Sierra's Dylan Meskowsky also in the mix, the final round would determine the individual champion. With a final round of 77, Drew Greco claimed the Big 8 MVP by just three strokes over teammate Dumag and Sierra's Meskowsky. The Falcons landed five individuals on the Big 8 All-Conference team (top 10 scorers): Greco, Dumag, Giacomo Sorrentino, Noah Woehler, and Arturo Zavala.
As coach Zarecky noted, the season did not start well for his team, finishing second to Napa Valley in the first two Big 8 tournaments. But the team righted the ship and went on to win the next nine consecutive tournaments to win the title in convincing fashion, by 22 points over runner-up Napa Valley!
