Falcon Golfers Win at Stanford
The FLC men's golf team opened their season with a Big 8 "Major Tournament" on Monday at Stanford University Golf Course and came away with their first-ever team win in that event. Battling a cold, windy day and greens that were "…nearly inpossible," the Falcons shot a team score of 378 to defeat runner-up Santa Rosa by six strokes. Falcon freshman Eric Olsem turned in the low score of the day – earning the low medalist award - with a round of 71 on the par-70 course. Sophomore Nick Fowler (Coach Zarecky's 'Comeback Player of the Milenium') shot a 74 to tie for second and also earn a medal. With their top five players all scoring in the 70's, the Falcons were one of only four teams to record a team score below 400 under the very challenging conditions.
"This is a great win for us," noted FLC head coach Barry Zarecky. "We were able to accomplish it with one of our best players (sophomore Matt Shirley) having a bad day. I actually see us getting better."
