Mustangs' defense stymies Falcons in second half

Despite a solid first-half that saw the Falcons take a double-digit lead into the locker room, the Folsom Lake men's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss to Big 8 Conference leader Delta College on Tuesday night at Falcon Gym, 76-75.  The Mustangs (12-5 overall, 4-1 in Big 8) used a suffocating defense to limit the Falcons to 28 second-half points and took their first lead of the game with just over five minutes left.  Trailing by six with just 1:36 to play, the Falcons nearly got the win when Will Fitzpatrick nailed a three pointer, then followed that with a two-pointer.  Down by one, the Falcons made a defensive stop and got the ball with 10 seconds to play.  After a couple timeouts, Fitzpatrick's buzzer-beater three was just off the mark as the Mustangs breathed a huge sigh of relief.  Point guard Matt Lyon led the Falcons with 19 points, while 6'8" freshman Gavyn Kamminga had his best game as a Falcon, scoring 14.  Fitzpatrick finished with 16 points and sophomore Zethan Dumpson tallied 14.

The Falcons (6-10 overall, 1-3 in Big 8) will play their next two games on the road, with Friday night's contest at Sac City (11-6, 3-2) and next Tuesday's game at Modesto (4-12, 0-4).
