Oh, so close...

Oh, so close...

On paper, it looked like an easy win for the Big 8 Conference leading Bear Cubs of Santa Rosa Junior College.  But Tuesday night's game at Falcon Gym was anything but easy for the visitors as the upstart FLC men's basketball team nearly upset the #5-ranked Bear Cubs.  The game came down to the final minute before Santa Rosa sealed the 71-68 win with key free throws down the stretch.  The Falcons, at 1-9 in conference play, were playing with just five players  and were clearly underdogs against the 10-0 visitors.  But with Isiah Maun knocking down jumpers from outside and Zethan Dumpson scoring inside on all manner of drives, the Falcons stayed close throughout.  After trailing by eight at halftime (35-27), the Falcons made the visitors sweat with a strong second half, but were never quite able to take control.  The Falcons had no answer for Santa Rosa's Skylar Chavez, who finished with 34 points and 13 rebounds.  For the Falcons, Dumpson had 30 points while Maun tallied 19.  The Falcons (2-17 overall, 1-9 in Big 8) will travel across town to play at American River (5-14, 2-8) on Friday night at 5:30 pm.
