Falcons complete sweep of DVC with 5-3 win

With a sigh of relief, the Folsom Lake baseball team held off a determined Diablo Valley squad for a tense 5-3 win on Saturday in Pleasant Hill to complete the three game sweep of the Vikings.  The Falcons won on the strength of starting pitcher Skylar Wells' left arm, who earned his tenth win of the season (he's second in the state in wins!) with seven strikouts in six innings while allowing just two runs.  Drake Digiorno and Bryce Petrilla gave the Falcons an early 3-0 lead with a two-run triple (Digiorno) and an rbi single (Petrilla).  After the Vikings closed the gap to 3-2, the Falcons added unearned runs in the fifth and eighth innings with the help of Viking errors.  Closer Cole Tremain made it interesting in the ninth with a hit batter and a walk - plus a couple wild pitches - put two runners in scoring position with no outs.  Tremain then settled down and retired the Vikings with a strikeout, a pop-up, and a strikout to earn his eighth save of the season.

The Falcons enter the final week of regular season with a Big 8 Conference title on the line.  They enter the week in a virtual tie with Delta College, although the Falcons have four games this week thanks to a rain makeup on Saturday against Sierra.  They'll host Sacramento City on Tuesday afternoon (2:30 pm) and Friday evening (5:00 pm) and play at Sac City on Thursday evening.
