Delta takes series, Big 8 lead with 6-3 win over the Falcons

The top two teams in the Big 8 Conference met on Friday afternoon in Stockton for their series-deciding game and with first place in the standings up for grabs.  The host Delta Mustangs used the tried-and-true method of pitching and defense to take the rubber match, 6-3.  The Falcons managed just six hits - including a solo home run by Logan Sutter - while starter Skylar Wells suffered his first loss of the season against seven victories.  Wells gave up the go-ahead run on three straight singles in the sixth inning and the Mustangs never relinquished the lead.  Mustang closer Nate Morris pitched the final three innings without allowing a hit.

The Falcons (21-5-1 overall, 9-3 in Big 8) now trail the Mustangs by 1-1/2 games at the top of the standings.  They'll face Modesto (19-9, 8-7 in Big 8) this week with home games on Tuesday (2:30 pm) and Saturday (1:00 pm).
