Panthers' 3-run homer dooms Falcons

Panthers' 3-run homer dooms Falcons

With the home team Sac City Panthers finding themselves short of pitching depth, it was agreed that Friday's game would be a shortened 7-inning affair.  The Falcons grabbed an early 3-0 lead when they put up single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings, mostly on the strength of doubles by Troy Shields, Trey Furrey, and Isiah Lissade.  With Falcon lefty Skylar Wells cruising through the first three innings, it looked like the Falcons were on their way to victory.  A Panther walk and a double in the fourth cut the lead to 3-1, but Wells still looked sharp.  In the fifth inning, however, with his pitch count climbing, he was removed after allowing a single and a walk.  Reliever Azul Baker struck out the next batter, but Panther shortstop Dan Sayre crushed a 2-out, 3-run homer that propelled the Panthers to a 4-3 victory.
