Santa Rosa stops Falcons' winning streak at six
The FLC baseball team opened their three game series against Santa Rosa on Tuesday with hopes of extending their six-game winning streak, but the host Bear Cubs had other ideas as they toppled the Falcons, 5-2. The Bear Cubs got on the board early with three runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer. Falcon starter Andrew Vaughn then shut down the Bear Cubs over the next four innings, giving his team a chance to get back in the game. The Falcons finally broke through in the sixth when Anthony Mislinski's two-out double scored Aidan Malm to make it 3-1, but that was all they'd get as Mislinski was stranded at second. The Bear Cubs added two in their half of the sixth to extend their lead to 5-1. Things got interesting when the Falcons got the first two batters on base to start the seventh, but they got just one run from that rally and never mounted a serious threat after that.
The Falcons fell to 8-8 in Big 8 play (23-9 overall) and remain in fifth place in the Big 8, three games behind both Sierra and Sac City. The Falcons host Santa Rosa at Falcon Field on Thursday at 2:30 pm.
