Falcon baseball team upsets Delta!

The Falcons opened their three-game series against Delta College, the #8 ranked team in California (with a record of 27-7), in Stockton on Tuesday afternoon with a surprising 6-4 victory.  The Falcons were facing undefeated pitcher Alex Patterson, the state leader in wins (10) and fifth in ERA, but were not intimidated as they handed him his first loss of the season.  The Mustangs drew first blood when they put together three hits to take a 2-0 first-inning lead, but the Falcons answered right back with a 2-run home run off the bat of designated hitter Kale Leach that tied the score in the second.  Falcon starter Jordan Taylor retired the side in order in three of the next four innings, although the Mustangs managed a run in the fourth to go up 3-2.  The turning point for the Falcons came in the sixth inning after Charlie Harber was hit by a pitch and Greg Vaughn singled.  Sophomore shortstop Grant Heisinger tied the score with his safety squeeze-bunt RBI single, and after a Carson McCusker fly out, first baseman Jack Rotteveel launched a three-run home run to deep left-center field that put the Falcons ahead 6-3.  From there, the bullpen took over to finish off the win for the Falcons, with Grant Dragmire earning the save.

The Falcons (15-20 overall, 6-13 in the Big 8) will host Delta on Thursday afternoon at Falcon Field at 2:30, then finish off the series on Saturday in Stockton.
