Beavers take series with game 3 win over FLC

The Falcons hosted American River on Saturday in the deciding game of their three-game series, but fell to the Beavers 17-8.  It was an emotional day for the Falcons as they paid tribute to Donovan Palma, the freshman pitcher who was tragically killed in an automobile accident on his way to FLC last September.  Palma's number 20 jersey was officially retired and framed #20 jerseys were presented to Palma's parents and family in a pregame memorial ceremony.  The lingering effects of the emotional ceremony were clearly evident as play began, and the seven errors committed by the Falcons support that theory.

The game itself featured 31 hits to go with the 25 total runs.  The Falcons' pitching staff issued 8 walks in the game, another factor that contributed to the loss.  Falcon freshman outfielder Carson McCusker raised his team-leading batting average to .357 with a double and his tenth home run of the season (2nd in the state in the category) and his 38th RBI (4th in the state).

The Falcons have a single non-conference game this week – Tuesday at Lassen College – with a chance to regroup before the final three weeks of the Big 8 schedule.
