Baseball team evens record with 6-1 win

The Falcons used a timeless formula to defeat Gavilan for the third time in five days:  pitching and defense, along with some timely hitting.  Freshman starter Lukas Bolen made his first collegiate start a memorable one as he pitched eight shutout innings, giving up just five hits while not walking a single batter.  With his defense playing error-free ball behind him, Bolen dominated the game with eight strikeouts while inducing seven ground-ball outs.  Offensively, the Falcons collected 12 hits, including a 4-for-5 day (with 2 doubles) by centerfielder Aidan Malm.  Freshman Jack Rotteveel, who was just recently promoted to the starting lineup, came within a single of hitting for the cycle with a homer in the third, a triple in the fifth, and a double in the seventh.  Since being inserted in the lineup last Saturday, he's gotten seven hits in 13 at-bats, a .538 batting average.  Meanwhile, Malm has had 14 hits (including 5 doubles) in his last 23 at-bats over five games, a ridiculous .609 average.

The win evens the Falcons' record at 5-5, although this could be the most dangerous 5-5 team in the state.  The Falcons are near the top of the state rankings in most offensive categories, including runs scored (5th), doubles (9th), triples (7th), home runs (5th), and slugging percentage (11th).  With the starting pitching beginning to gel, the Falcons are gaining confidence with each game.

The Falcons' Friday trip to College of Marin has been postponed due to the forecasted storm and rescheduled as a doubleheader at Marin on Saturday.  Game times will be 11:00 am and 2:30 pm.
