Baseball falls to Laney in pivotal game

In what was likely the biggest game of the season for the FLC baseball team, the Falcons wound up on the wrong end of a 16-3 loss at Laney College in Oakland on Tuesday afternoon.  The Eagles took advantage of some shaky Falcon pitching early, scoring three runs in the first inning on one hit, five walks, a passed ball, and a wild pitch. In the third inning, the floodgates opened as the Eagles scored six runs (five unearned), helped out by two Falcon errors, and a three-run homer from their designated hitter.  The fourth inning was no better as another six runs scored, punctuated this time by a two-run homer by the same DH, for a 15-0 lead.

The loss leaves the Falcons (22-13, 17-6 in BVC) clinging to faint hopes of making the CCCAA playoffs.  They'll play their final game at Napa Valley tomorrow afternoon, then await the results of Saturday's games and Sunday's seeding meeting to learn their fate.
