Baseball wins 7th straight

The FLC baseball team recorded another victory yesterday, this time winning 6-5 in 10 innings at Mendocino College in Ukiah.  The Falcons took an early 2-0 lead on Nick Schumacher's first-inning double to right field, then extended their lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning when Greg Vaughn drove in a run with a double to left-center and scored on an error.  Schumacher's fifth inning leadoff home run put the Falcons ahead 5-2, but the Eagles battled back with three runs in their half of the inning to tie the game at 5.  Neither team managed to score through the final four innings, but in the 10th  Vaughn struck again.  His second double of the game scored Nicola Mislinski, who had drawn a two-out walk, all the way from first base with the winning run.  Sophomore lefty Kendall Menard earned the win in relief after taking over in the fifth inning and pitching 4 -2/3 scoreless innings.

The Falcons improved to 16-5 in BVC play (21-12 overall), but remain in third place as both Laney and Los Medanos won yesterday.  They'll play at Contra Costa tomorrow (Saturday), then finish the regular season next week at Laney on Tuesday and at Napa on Thursday.
