Baseball on top of BVC after break

The Falcons played four games over the break: a home-and-home series against both Mendocino (Saturday/Tuesday) and Contra Costa (Thursday/Friday) and finished the week with a perfect 4-0 record.  They began the week with a 9-1 win at Mendocino on Saturday.  Josh Moore threw seven innings, allowing just one run, while Tyler Kaim (HR, double) and Nick Schumacher (4 hits, including 2 doubles) provided the offense.  On Tuesday, Andrew Schantz shut out Mendocino over seven innings as the Falcons rolled to a 7-1 win.  Thursday's 5-3 win at Contra Costa could partially be credited to the Comets' defense, which committed five errors in the game.  Starting pitcher Will Felton got the win, leaving after allowing just three runs over 6-2/3  innings.  The Falcons wrapped up the week with a 15-8 win over Contra Costa at Falcon Field on Friday as second baseman Joey Smith scored five runs (an FLC single-game record) while driving in three runs with three hits.  Catcher Mason Allen also collected 3 RBI with his two hits.

With a conference record of 9-3, the Falcons sit atop the Bay Valley standings by a slim ½ game margin over Laney and Los Medanos and one game ahead of Marin.  They will face Laney College on Tuesday in Oakland and again Thursday at Falcon Field.
