Baseball Holds Off Laney For 4-3 Win

The FLC baseball team found another way to win on Tuesday afternoon, this time scoring four runs early and then holding on for a 4-3 victory over Laney College at Falcon Field.  Although the Falcons were out-hit by the Eagles, 8-7, they managed to bunch together three hits and a couple of Laney fielding errors in the second inning to build the four-run lead.  The key hit was Austin Walies' 2-out, 2-run triple with Josh Criswell and F.P. Santangelo scoring on the play.  Those four runs looked secure with starting pitcher Will Felton shutting out the Eagles for 7+ innings on just four hits.  But in the eighth, the Eagles rallied against FLC reliever Matt Huddleston on a single and two doubles to make it 4-2.  Falcon reliever Kendall Menard then got a strike out before giving up an RBI single that closed it to 4-3.  That was all that Laney would get as Menard got the next batter on a groundout to end the threat.  Zach Reid took over in the ninth and put the Eagles down in order to earn his third save of the season.

The win was the Falcons' fourth straight and improved their overall record to 16-9 and 8-5 in the BVC.
