Falcons suffer disappointing loss at Sierra

The big showdown at Sierra on Friday night lived up to the hype, but unfortunately did not turn out in the Falcons' favor as they fell to the Wolverines in four very tight sets, 25-27, 25-21, 25-27, 25-27.   A controversial call – reversing a previous Falcon point – on the final point of the last set marred what otherwise was an exhilarating match between two very evenly-matched opponents.  Had the original call stood, the teams would have played a winner-take-all fifth set.  Instead, it ended a superb matchup of two playoff-caliber teams.  For the Falcons, freshman outside hitter and Big 8 kills leader Caitlin Dillon had a monster game with a season-high 27 kills, despite playing with a strained thigh.   Kaitlin Bullock was a versatile performer with 9 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore defensive specialist Deonna Robinson  recorded 25 digs.

The Falcons (15-7 overall, 8-4 in Big 8) will enjoy a week with just one match, hosting Diablo Valley (3-16, 1-10 in Big 8) on Friday night at 6:30 pm.
