Falcons overcome sluggish start to defeat Sac City

Maybe it was the Halloween candy, or perhaps the change in the weather.  Whatever it was, the FLC women's volleyball team looked very beatable as they split the first two sets against Sacramento City College on Wednesday night, winning 26-24 and losing 17-25.  Fortunately, the Falcons found the remedy and proceeded to blow away the Panthers, 25-8 and 25-6 in the next two sets to win going away and remain in a tie atop the Big 8 standings.  Sophomore outside hitter Kylie Haverson got it going in the final two sets, crushing nearly everything set in her direction.  Kate Nicknig, Analyse Stapleton, and Emma Flewell found their games as well,  providing key blocks and big hits.  And Isabel Mason contributed from all over the floor, pounding kills from her outside hitter position, teaming on blocks, then ultimately serving 19 consecutive points to open the fourth set.

With just four Big 8 matches remaining, the 3-way logjam (FLC, Sierra, and Delta – all at 11-1) at the top of the standings should get interesting.  The Falcons (20-2 overall) host Sierra (19-3 overall) on Friday night in their final regular season home match that could ultimately determine the Big 8 champion.  The Wolverines will be motivated to exact revenge, since it was the Falcons who beat them in straight sets a month ago in Rocklin.
