Falcons defeat a feisty Modesto squad in straight sets

The FLC women's volleyball team continued their run of success on Wednesday night as they defeated Modesto at Falcon Gymnasium, 25-16, 25-18, and 25-19.  The visiting Pirates provided a unique challenge for the Falcons, as they blocked well and were excellent on the defensive side of the net.  Still, the Falcons found ways to score points with better placement of attacks, surprise dumps by setter Samantha Hegseth, and excellent serving.  Isabel Mason had two service aces to go with her 15 digs and two kills.  Sophomore Kate Nicknig enjoyed one of her better games, recording 9 kills.  Libero Meggie Bolstad had 14 digs, many of which sent her diving to the floor.  And Kylie Haverson had her usual outstanding game, leading the team with 13 kills while picking up 11 digs.   Head coach Matt Torrez was quick to praise Modesto's improved team, noting, "….they have really stepped up from last year.  They're almost all freshmen, but they're going to be very good soon."

The Falcons improved their overall season record to 10-1 and are now 3-0 in Big 8 Conference play.  This Saturday's Folsom Lake Classic Tournament will provide a test for the Falcons as they will face state #3 ranked Fresno City at 10:00 am and then play state #11 (and NorCal #5) Feather River at 2:00 pm.
