Falcons SOAR

With two dominant straight-set victories in one day, the FLC women's volleyball team steamrolled through the City College of San Francisco Classic Tournament on Wednesday afternoon as they improved their early season record to 4-0.  The Falcons opened against CCSF - notoriously a strong contender in the Coast Conference - with a 3-0 win (25-20, 25-18, 25-19).  Sophomore Kylie Haverson led the Falcons with 15 kills (in just 3 sets) and 9 digs while setter Samantha Hegseth logged 33 assists.  "We really are playing well as a team right now," remarked head coach Matt Torrez.   "CCSF has some big hitters, but we were able to neutralized them."

In their second match of the afternoon, the Falcons were able to use their entire bench to gain experience, yet still subdued Napa Valley 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-14).  Haverson again led the team with 15 kills despite limited playing time.  Sophomore Kate Nicknig had 8 kills along with 2 blocks while defensive specialist Meggie Bolstad had 7 digs.

Next week, the Falcons make their 2017 Falcon Gym debut with a rare Tuesday match against DeAnza College (5:30 start).  They'll follow that with the Folsom Lake Classic Tournament on Wednesday, with Butte, Ohlone, and Cabrillo Colleges all participating.  And on Friday, they open Big 8 Conference play when they host Diablo Valley College at 6:30 pm.
