Falcons set to soar in 2017

The Folsom Lake College women's volleyball team will not sneak up on anybody in 2017.  After an inaugural season that saw them surprise the Big 8 Conference with a fourth place finish at 10-6  (20-9 overall), the Falcons hope to build on their success as they embark on their second season.  All-conference outside hitter Kylie Haverson (second in the Big 8 in kills in '16 with 398) should be even better in 2017.  Middle hitter Emma Flewell (4th in the Big 8 in blocks in '16), although still recovering from an ankle dislocation, will also be an important part of the team's success.  Setter Isabel Mason, who finished 2016 at 5th in the Big 8 in service aces as well as assists, will provide leadership and versatility as she sees action at outside hitter as well.  Other key sophomore returnees include Kate Nicknig ( 6' 1" middle hitter), setter Samantha Hegseth, and libero/defensive specialist Meggie Bolstad.  Falcons' head Matt Torrez expects incoming freshmen Ashley Lewis (setter, Folsom HS)) and Deonna Robinson (libero/defensive specialist, Oakmont HS) to see plenty of court time as well.  Red-shirt sophomore Ally Whittall (6' 0") will add another dimension to the attack at outside hitter.

The Falcons play three early season tournaments away from Folsom before their home opener against DeAnza College on Tuesday, Sept 12.  They'll also host a 4-team tournament on Wednesday, Sept 13 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.
