Falcon women awaken in second half for 6-0 victory

It took nearly 60 minutes, but the FLC women's soccer team finally broke out of a scoreless tie against Diablo Valley with six second-half goals to defeat the Vikings, 6-0, in their Big 8 Conference Tournament opening-round match.  The Falcons had plenty of first-half opportunities, but the Vikings' goalkeeper made a bevy of saves to keep her team in the match.  With the score still knotted at 0-0 fifteen minutes into the second half, a hand ball in the penalty area gave the Falcons a free kick, which freshman Grace Marshall sent into the top left corner of the goal.  With the seal now broken, the Falcons followed up with three more goals in the next 10 minutes to break the game open.  Freshman forward Klaire Horton recorded her first collegiate 'Hat Trick', giving her a team-leading 12 goals for the season.  Sophomore Annette Medina and freshman Alexia Chavez also scored one goal apiece as the Falcons advanced to the Big 8 Tournament semi-finals.  The shutout victory was the Falcons' 14th shutout in 17 matches this season.

The Falcons (15-0-2 overall, 9-0 in Big 8) will need that defense to continue their run toward the Big 8 Championship; they'll face longtime rival Cosumnes River (10-6-4 overall, 5-3-1 and 4th place in the Big 8) on Tuesday night (6:00 pm) at FLC.
