Friday's showdown between Big 8 Conference co-leaders Folsom Lake and Delta lived up to the hype as both teams waged an intense battle for first place at Delta College. The Falcons broke through early with a goal in the ninth minute of play by sophomore Avery Pieri, her 6th goal of the season and 4th in Big 8 play.
The Falcons, who have recorded 12 shutouts in their 15 games this season, once again relied on their defense to protect the lead and it did not disappoint. Charlize Garaguay, Miah Mullany, Mia Ramos, and Makenna Jensen all contributed outstanding defense as the Falcons extended their unbeaten streak to 15 games. Sophomore goalkeeper Grace Filiau made several key stops while recording her 5th solo shutout of the season.
The Falcons (13-0-2 overall, 7-0 in Big 8) can clinch home field throughout the Big 8 Tournament with a win on Tuesday against Diablo Valley (4-10 overall, 1-6 in Big 8) at FLC at 3:30 pm.
