Falcons get shutout win over American River

The Falcons opened the second half of their Big 8 schedule with a solid 2-0 win over American River on Friday night at Falcon Stadium.  The Beavers made the Falcons work hard for their goals - they are known for their tenacious defense - but sophomore Alhan Bakideh capitalized on a misstep in the 12th minute, using her speed to race by a defender and put the ball past the ARC goalkeeper for an early 1-0 lead.  Twenty minutes later, freshman Emma Thompson took a pass from Sarah Scott and found the net for another Falcon goal.  With a 2-0 lead, the Falcons continued to pressure on the offensive end, but were even more focused on defense as they shut down the Beavers.  Izzy Chinchay recorded the shutout with eight saves.

The Falcons improved their overall record to 9-2-1 and are still in third place in the Big 8 at 7-2, just a single point behind second-place Santa Rosa.  This week's schedule will have the Falcons walking the gauntlet with a match at Delta (10-2-2 overall, 4-2-2 Big 8) on Tuesday and a trip to Santa Rosa (10-2-2 overall, 7-1-1 Big 8) on Friday.
