Women's Soccer Season Ends With 3-2 Loss In State Championship

The FLC women's soccer team's season came to a close at the hands of four-time defending state champion Cerritos College on Friday afternoon in Ventura.  A foul in the goal box in just the 5th minute of play resulted in an early penalty kick goal for Cerritos that effectively changed the complexion of the match.  Cerritos took further control in the 15th minute of play when Carolina Jaramillo tallied her 19th goal of the season to go up 2-0, a score that would hold until well into the second half.  Still, FLC's fighting Falcons did not give in.  Falcon midfielder Allie Miller put FLC on the board with a goal in the 73rd minute on an assist from freshman Breanna Brumet, making it 2-1.  Cerritos responded with a goal of their own eight minutes later to restore their two-goal lead, but the determined FLC women kept attacking.  Falcon sophomore midfielder Karina Torres made it 3-2 with an unassisted goal late in the match, but that would be the final goal of the game as the Falcons ran out of time.  The two goals by FLC marked just the fourth time in 2016 that Cerritos, with 15 shutouts on the season, gave up more than one goal in a match.  On Sunday, Cerritos completed their quest for a fifth straight State Championship when they defeated Diablo Valley, 2-0.

The Falcons finished their season with an overall record of 17-4-4 and earned their fourth conference title in as many years.  In his four years at the helm of Folsom Lake women's soccer, head coach Donny Ribaudo has compiled an amazing record of 70-13-10.  Congratulations to the Falcons on an outstanding season and reaching the State Final Four.  Best of luck to these dedicated sophomores as they move onward and upward:  Leily Ghods, Brandi Gutierrez, Aubrey Hall, Amber Hicks, Hannah Klinger, Allie Miller, Paty Navarro, Hannah O'Donnell, Tori Pearson, and Karina Torres.
