Women's Soccer Advances With 4-0 Win Over Mendocino

The Falcons opened the state playoffs with a convincing 4-0 victory over Mendocino College on Saturday night in a driving rainstorm in Falcon Stadium.  The brave (and drenched) crowd saw Falcon sophomore Allie Miller open the scoring in the 8th minute after a brilliant pass from Breanna Brumet Freshman Keionna Claypoole added to the lead seven minutes later with an unassisted goal to make it 2-0 at halftime.  Sophomore Karina Torres scored off a rebound in the 60th minute (her 10th of the season), then Claypoole added her 11th of the season for the 4-0 final score.  The Falcons' defense was particularly stellar as Mendocino was denied any shots on goal in the entire 90 minutes.  The Falcons will now face Big 8 Conference and LRCCD district rival Cosumnes River on Tuesday evening at Falcon Stadium.  The two teams split their two matches this season with each team winning on the other's home field.  The Falcons hope to reverse that trend in order to continue their quest for a berth in the State Final Four.  Kickoff time will be at 5:00 pm – come out and make it a Playoff Doubleheader (soccer at 5, volleyball at 7)!!!
