Women's Soccer Holds Off Sierra

Playing in front of one of the largest crowds of the season at Falcon Stadium on Sophomore Recognition Night, the FLC women's soccer team exacted some revenge on a Sierra College team that had previously defeated the Falcons a month ago in Rocklin (1-0) with an exciting 2-1 victory on Tuesday night.  The Falcons built a 2-0 first-half lead behind freshman Breanna Brumet's two goals before allowing Sierra to score a controversial goal just before time expired in the first half.  Brumet's first goal came in just the 3rd minute of play after sophomore Hannah O'Donnell dribbled around a defender on the right wing, then crossed to the waiting Brumet for the goal.  With a 2-1 halftime lead, the Falcon defense shut down the Wolverines over the final 45 minutes to earn the win.  The match was the final regular-season home game for the 10 Falcon sophomores, each of whom received a bouquet and a brief recap of their career at FLC in front of the home crowd.

With the victory, the Falcons improved to 9-3-3 in Big 8 Conference play and 14-3-3 overall.  They will conclude their regular season at Sacramento City College on Thursday night at 6:00 pm.  The CCCAA state playoffs are scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 19 with the Falcons expecting to host a first-round match.
