Women's Soccer Gets A Pair Of Road Wins

After a win at Cabrillo on Thursday and Friday at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the Falcons' three day road trip concluded with a match at Hartnell College on Saturday afternoon.  The Falcons knew going in that this would be a tough match as Hartnell has a long tradition of quality soccer teams;  the Panthers were the 2015 Coast Conference runner-up and faced FLC in the first round of the State Playoffs, losing 3-1.  An early goal by sophomore forward (and Falcon scoring leader) Leily Ghods put the Falcons ahead in the sixth minute.  After that, the two teams battled evenly throughout the remaining 40 minutes of the first half with no other goals scored.  Ten minutes into the second half, freshman Jackie Kettredge put the Falcons up 2-0 off a free kick to the far post.  Though down by two goals, Hartnell did not cave in and responded with a header off a corner kick to make it 2-1.  However, after that it was all Folsom Lake as the Falcons notched three goals in 10 minutes to put the game away.  Allie Miller, Hannah O'Donnell, and Keionna Claypoole (with two assists from Karina Torres) put the Falcons ahead 5-1 as they wore down the Panthers late in the second half.  The win improved the Falcons' non-conference record to 5-0 as they head into Big 8 Conference play this week.  They'll open on Tuesday in south Sacramento against Cosumnes River, a perennial favorite in the Big 8, before heading to Santa Rosa on Friday.
