Women Capture a Big Win Against BIG 8 Opponent

In front of a spirited and anxious crowd of Falcon Followers, the FLC women's soccer team played their home opener last night and came away with a hard-fought and well-deserved 1-0 win over Delta College.  Head Coach Donny Ribaudo was deservedly pleased with the result, noting that, "Delta will be one of the top teams in the Big 8 Conference;  they have very athletic players.  This was a big win for us."

The two teams were evenly matched and had played 83 minutes of scoreless futbol when FLC's Jaqui Ortega dribbled into the box and was tripped by a Delta defender.  The foul inside the box resulted in a Penalty Kick for the Falcons, which sophomore Michelle Kimball calmly blasted past the Delta goalkeeper into the left corner of the net.  The Falcons' defense stepped up the intensity for the final 7+ minutes to secure the win.  The Falcons were led by Kimball's attacking presence at center-midfielder and the excellent defense played by freshman center-back Chayney Mata.
