Women Sweep Weekend

The FLC women's soccer team took to the road for a weekend in Silicon Valley with games at West Valley College in Saratoga on Friday and DeAnza College in Cupertino on Saturday.  Friday's game saw the Falcons get off to a slow start against West Valley before sophomore Michelle Kimball finally scored in the 32nd minute.  From there it was all FLC as freshman forward Sami Thomas (Folsom H.S.) celebrated her birthday with two goals to lead the Falcons to the 6-1 win and earn Player of the Game honors.  Also scoring for FLC were freshmen Paty Navarro, Chayney Mata, and Hannah Klinger, with assists from Caitlin Castle (2), Alexis Wallace (2), Ana Atteberry, and Jaqui Ortega.

On Saturday against DeAnza College, sophomore forward Caitlin Castle started the scoring with a goal (assisted by Michelle Kimball) in the 40th minute.  DeAnza answered right back with a goal of their own three minutes later.  The score remained tied at 1 until early in the second half when Castle scored her second goal of the game, this one on an assist by Sami Thomas.  Ten minutes later, Alexis Wallace found Sami Thomas for another goal and a 3-1 lead.  The final goal for the Falcons came in the 83rd minute when Castle scored her third goal of the game off an assist from freshman Brandi Gutierrez to make it 4-1.  Castle's 'Hat Trick' earned her Player of the Game honors while the Falcons' weekend sweep improved their overall record to 4-2.
